Top 10 Horror Hot Toys Figures We Need To See Made!Joseph
Being a child of the 80’s, I grew up watching Robert Englund terrorize teens as Freddy Kruger, Doug Bradley exploit your inner demons as Pinhead and countless different actors hack and slash random people as Jason Vorhees. This is just to name a few.. there were so many others in television and movies that I can’t even count. It was in my youth that my love for horror movies was born.
When it comes to the vast 1/6 scale figure universe I feel that the Horror genre often gets left behind by manufacturers. That is not to say that there are not a couple of very good offerings from Sideshow Collectibles and others (especially if we’re talking about Freddy Kruger and Jason Vorhees) but other less popular characters have yet to receive the limelight. Hot Toys has also released a number of different Predator sixth scale figures over the years, too. While some of these earlier releases were appreciated for their accuracy at the time, as quality has improved in the space it would be nice to see updated releases for some major horror characters.
I feel it would be remiss of me to not put forth a list of characters that I feel should get a refreshed sixth scale figure representation by Hot Toys, the definitive leader when it comes to accuracy in likeness. While we have seen other companies tackle the horror genre here’s a list of sixth scale horror figures Hot Toys should consider producing..
AVP Alien: I grew up watching Sigourney Weaver battle the fearsome Xenomorph as Ellen Ripley in the Aliens movies. We have gotten the ridge headed Alien Warrior for Aliens but I want the Alien from Aliens VS Predator as well as the Grid Alien. The smooth headed ascetic of these would be something that I would definitely shell out money for.
As a side note, there have been many offerings in the Predator department. I can find no wrong in those and am rather happy with the five or six I already have.
Ellen Ripley: We had a version of this amazing actress, Sigourney Weaver, from the movie Alien, but I would rather see her as the warrior that appeared in Aliens. Maybe Hot Toys could explore making a deluxe version of this character and include Newt in a two-pack similar to what we have seen in the past like with the Captain America / Steve Rogers double pack from Hot Toys.
Corporal Hicks: Michael Biehn brought to life the rough and taciturn Corporal Hicks and I feel that he really does need an updated 1:6 scale figure. Hot Toys released a version of this character back in their early days but it hardly holds up to the quality offered today in the Movie Masterpiece Series line of figures. At the same time I could mention a sixth scale Kyle Reese from the movie Terminator. How can we have one side of a fight and not the other?
Should also mention Bill Paxton as Private Hudson. Really, he just begs to be done.
Bishop: As Lance Henriksen is one of my favorite actors I felt it necessary to include his role as the android Bishop in this list of Hot Toys figures we need to see made. Really, with the other characters from Aliens being mentioned in this list I have to point out that Bishop has not yet been done by any sixth scale figure company, licensed or otherwise. Why not?
Pumpkin Head: After mentioning Lance Henriksen this list would not be complete without the mention of the creature from Pumpkinhead, the original spirit of vengeance (yes, I realize that Ghost Rider predates Pumpkinhead, damn it, let me have this..). On scale with the Alien warrior, this would look amazing on display for any horror fan who wants to strike a feeling of disturbed in anyone who gets a peek at the collection.
Pinhead: Doug Bradley played Clive Barker’s big bad in the Hellraiser series. There has been a fairly decent offering for this character in sixth scale figure form but I would really like to see a Hot Toys take on this one. The attention to detail and quality control at Hot Toys is unmatched so it would probably mean a very gruesome figure that would ooze malice while sitting on your shelf.
Hannibal the Cannibal: Whether played by Anthony Hopkins or Mads Mikkelsen, Hannibal was an iconic creepy character. The movies and subsequent TV series based on Thomas Harris’ novels are adored by horror fans the world over so it would not surprise me if this was a good seller. We have seen Blitzway (another one sixth scale figure manufacturer) offer a version of Hannibal in 1:6 scale but I can’t help but think this; like anything, would be better executed by Hot Toys.
Leatherface: No list of horror icons is complete without mention of the silent brute from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I may be a heretic for saying this but I would rather see a sixth scale figure from the 2003 remake of the film than the original. In terms of the overall look of the character I found that version to be much more menacing and what more could you ask for in a horror figure? Beggars can’t be choosers, though.
Chucky: The possessed children’s doll voiced by Brad Dourif from the Child’s Play movies would be awesome as a 1:6 scale figure or even a 1:1 life size scale figure. The vast array of different portraits they could include alone would make for some very fun and varied display options. This is one of those characters that while it does not demand incredible likeness (since it was a doll after all) it might be a lot lighter on the wallet, Hot Toys or not.
Dracula: Gary Oldman’s portrayal of one of history’s greatest monsters was, to put it simply, amazing. The simple fact that there has not been multiple versions of the master Vampire is rather mind boggling. The young version with glowing red eyes peering at you over the blue shades while sitting on your collectibles shelf is almost a must. If I had any skill in customizing sixth scale figures I’d have done one already!
That brings my personal Top 10 Horror Hot Toys Figures We Need To See Made to a wrap and even though this list was limited in that it only included (10) horror icons that need a sixth scale figure there are countless others that did not get a mention! Let us know in the comment section below which character(s) you would want to see get the Hot Toys treatment. While Hot Toys and other 1:6 scale figure manufacturers have had what seems like an obsession with super hero characters in recent years here’s hoping a little wishing goes a long way and we see some horror figures pop up for pre-order soon.
