Hot Toys San Diego Comic Con 2019 Preview NightCarl To
Summer nights are something everybody always looks forward to – the days are long, the sun is shining, and people can get out and have a good time. One week in particular that every Hot Toys collector is always excited for in July is San Diego Comic Con (SDCC). The annual San Diego Comic-Con even is one of the largest conventions, typically drawing well over 100,000+ attendees over the 3 day period. SDCC is the time where all the news about anything comic book, media and collectible related is announced and often times revealed for the first time. Lucky for us, Hot Toys will be attendance this year showcasing over 100+ figures – some newly revealed and others on display again.
Wednesday night at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 is what’s known as Preview Night where the lucky ones get to walk around the convention center before the general public is allowed in. Thanks to the internet, we get to preview some of the awesome Hot Toys figures that are on display through the crafty lenses of other collectors and hobbyists on the show floor.
Having been one of the biggest movies of the past year (and possibly ever, we are coming for you Avatar!), Hot Toys has hit that line hard with the sixth scale figures that are on display. One of the newest prototypes that was on display is the “Iron Patriot” War Machine armor as seen in the ending credits of the film and a few earlier scenes like the final epic all-out battle. Hot Toys is also planning to release a “Team Suit” version of War Machine as well in matching colors which made it’s first appearance here at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
And let’s not forget America’s Ass – one of the surprising reveals from Hot Toys is an updated version of the original Captain America suit as seen in the classic Avengers film. It actually makes a lot of sense to see a re-appearance of this suit since we saw it throughout the movie and there’s a lot of collectors who have joined the game “late” and missed out on this one.
A few months ago we got some “teasers” for what looked like a release of Professor Hulk and Hot Toys has confirmed collectors suspicion with unveiling the prototype of Hulk as seen in Avengers: Endgame with the Nano Gauntlet on his arm. Here’s a quick glance at what we can expect to see for this release of Hulk..
If you are like me and want to see more Hot Toys figures of Marvel Cinematic Universe characters that are not apart of the Avengers – looks like we have a Mantis coming as well as a Drax with a character appropriate head sculpt! And one character that we did not expect to see from the Captain Marvel flick is Jude Law’s character of Yon-Rogg.
Anybody who has played the Spider-Man game on PlayStation 4 (PS4) has probably wished Hot Toys would release more of the suits seen in the game. The classic PS4 suit, Spidey-Punk and Scarlet Spider have already been released or announced so it only makes sense they would continue this line. Well, you are in luck: looks like prototypes for Iron Spider-Man, Negative Suit Spider-Man and Velocity Suit Spider-Man were all unveiled at San Diego Comic Con 2019 by Hot Toys and put on display for the first time.
Remember the teaser Hot Toys dropped on their page about a week ago with the “Vulture” wings from the baddie we saw in Spider-Man: Homecoming?
It turns out that will be apart of a newly announced quarter scale (1:4 scale) version of Spider-Man that was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and put on display for the first time.
The base included with this figure looks to be quite extravagant and has been built by Studio HIVE, the same company that is producing the stand for the Deluxe version of Spider-Man Stealth Suit by Hot Toys. Good to see Hot Toys pushing the quarter scale figure market a little deeper for fans who prefer that larger size.
Looks like the chamber that housed the Iron Spider suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming will be produced by Hot Toys. Is Spider-Man the new Iron Man for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Only time will tell.
Did someone say Iron Man? Hot Toys and Iron Man are pretty much synonymous now-a-days, and Hot Toys has some treats for us including: a 1/4 scale MK II and a Neon Tech War Machine are also on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2019..
When the Punisher War-Machine from Marvel: Future Fight was announced by Hot Toys many collectors were really caught off guard by both the product and license announcement. Well, here is another choice out of left field: Venompool from Marvel Contest of Champions. Looks like he comes with some awesome accessories!
And that’s just day one at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 for Hot Toys! So what other characters could Hot Toys be announcing for the MCU/Marvel line? Personally I would love if the prototype for “Bro Thor” is shown and revealed to the public. We know it’s coming but what it’s going to look like is another question entirely. Another unexpected character I would love to see is a “Tactical Armor” version of the much-loved villain Kill Monger. And Hot Toys collectors are chomping at the bit to get their hands on a sixth scale figure version of Mysterio who had an excellent portrayal by Jake Gyllenhaal in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Or maybe we will get a little spoiled after the success of Avengers: Endgame and get a version of Valkyrie sporting her Pegasus like we saw her in the epic fight scene at the end of the film.
Sound off in the comments below – I would love to hear from other Hot Toys collectors and get a sense who you are hoping to see be announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 by Hot Toys for this year! Remember to keep it locked to our social media and blog over the weekend for all the latest coverage and pre-orders directly from the event to you.
