Latest Sideshow Pre-Order: Sixth Scale Wolverine Figure!

As you may know, Sideshow Collectibles has been nonchalantly carving out a niche in the Sixth Scale market that caters to Marvel comic book fans. While most Sixth Scale figure companies like Hot Toys tend to concentrate on movie versions, Sideshow has been putting out some excellent comic accurate renditions of characters like Magneto and Thor. While I love my MCU films and their take on the characters of the Marvel Universe, the comics are where my heart lies so Sideshow’s focus has always made this fanboy happy.

Back in 2017, they released their 1/6 Wolverine figure garbed in a tactical take of the character’s classic brown and tan costume that he wore in the 1980s. Despite that costume being my absolute favorite Wolvie outfit, something about the figure’s baggy fit and the exaggerated head sculpts left me cold.

Following up on that release with another of the Canucklehead’s iconic outfits this time around, Sideshow has now announced the pre-order for their newest sixth scale figure of Wolverine in his tiger-stripe costume.

Most fans that were introduced to the character either around his first appearance in the 1970s or during the heyday of the X-Men animated series in the 1990s likely have a nostalgic affection for this look. It’s never been my favorite but I completely understand why it’s a classic.

Sideshow has done what looks to be a wonderful job recreating the threads, largely sticking to the comic book design in a way that they chose not to with the earlier brown and tan version. As a result, this release is more successful, at least for my money. While I don’t love the large mouth on the head sculpt, it’s nowhere near as distracting.

Despite the improved outfit and sculpt, it is a bummer that this figure comes with fewer accessories than the previous release and yet costs about the same price. That’s not a deal-breaker, obviously, but it certainly stings and I will miss the option of swapping out the masked head for Logan’s ugly mug. I’m still excited about adding this to my collection.

The Wolverine (Comics Version) Sixth Scale Figure from Sideshow Collectibles is available for pre-order now at just $234.99 USD – slated to drop Q3, 2020.
