Sideshow Collectibles continues its cornering of the market on comic-accurate figures with the X-Men’s leader, Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops!
While companies like Hot Toys concentrate on comic book characters as they appear in films and television shows, Sideshow has steadily supplied collectors with an alternative option. From the Punisher to Daredevil to the X-Men, the manufacturer’s Sixth Scale Figures from the Marvel Universe have appeared as if they have jumped off of the comic page. Cyclops is no different.
Clad in his classic 1990s-era blue and gold costume that most people will recognize from either Jim Lee’s classic X-Men comic or the FOX animated series, Cyclops looks amazing. Sideshow has done a wonderful job translating Lee’s design into something that we all can’t wait to hold in our hands.
Mr. Summers does not come with a plethora of accessories, but what he does come with is very exciting. First, his badass leather jacket. Cyke was first teased by Sideshow, the leather jacket didn’t even occur to me as a likely inclusion but seeing it on him, I now realize how essential that alternate look is. There’s something about this outfit with that jacket on top that just makes the man look so cool.
Two visor options are available for the regular release; one standard and one with an impressive optic blast effect. The blast looks quite good, though I do wish there was an LED light-up feature that could make the effect look even more dynamic.
There is a third, “smoking”, visor that comes with the Exclusive version of the figure available to order from Sideshow’s own website. While I think it looks pretty cool, it’s not an essential extra for me.
With Magneto on collector’s shelves already and Wolverine also slated to release later this year, Sideshow’s X-Men line is getting more and more exciting. I can’t wait to add Cyclops to the shelf.
