In the 1960s and 1970s, Hammer Films were the kings of horror. Movies like The Curse of Frankenstein and The Mummy stand as classics in the genre to this day, no matter how many decades have passed. Chief among the studio’s offerings, 1958’s Dracula is to many, their crown achievement. Starring Christopher Lee as the titular character and Peter Cushing as his arch-nemesis, director Terence Fisher’s masterpiece is a fan-favorite. Sideshow Collectibles have recently announced that fans of the film can now bring the two lead characters home to their collections with their amazing Premium Format Figures, available for preorder now.

Sideshow Collectibles captures Christopher Lee’s likeness spot-on, bringing the versatile actor’s take on the horrifying vampire lord to eerie life. Standing at just under 23 inches tall, Dracula is just as scary to behold with this piece as he was when I first watched him on the screen.

The company has decided to go mixed media with the production of both statues and it definitely works in their favor. Something about the mixture of the sculpted figures with the tailored outfits works so well that it’s difficult to pinpoint just why.

Whereas Sideshow went quite lifelike with Lee’s portrait, their Van Helsing feels like its leaning into almost caricature regarding Cushing’s likeness. Don’t get me wrong, it works quite well and still looks excellent. There’s just something in the sculpt that seems a bit exaggerated when compared to Lee’s Dracula. Even with that minor observation, this is a job well-done and the two of these will make an excellent pair for serious horror collectors the world over.
