The classic comic strips of the 1930s are often taken for granted, having set the stage and the tropes that are so often utilized for modern comics, films and animated series. While it’s easy to forget these iconic characters, Iron Studios hasn’t done so. The Brazilian-based manufacturer has announced two of the more famous heroes of the time are coming to their 1:10 Art Scale statue line: The Phantom and Flash Gordon!

Pairing a jungle-based super hero of the 1930s and a futuristic, outer space adventurer might seem a little odd, but it turns out that the two characters have crossed paths plenty of times, even working together as teammates in the 1980s-era animated series, Defenders Of The Earth

Both the Phantom and Flash Gordon have been seen in many iterations over the decades, but Iron Studios has decided to go with their classic looks. Flash’s statue pops, holding his golden sword and ray gun, looking as heroic and dashing as ever. The vibrant blue, yellow and red of his outfit capture the comic strip colors of the time. Everything about this piece is picture-perfect for fans of the original strip.

The Phantom is another home run, conveying the burly, vibrant strength of the character alongside his pet wolf, Devil. Iron Studios manages to make the hero clad in a purple bodysuit and blue/black striped briefs look extremely cool, which is impressive enough. Add in a beautifully-sculpted jungle base and this is another piece I need in my collection.

On the dangerous planet called Mongo, the fearless adventurous hero, bent on battling the evil forces of a tyrant ruler, explores the wild wilderness in the forest kingdom of Arboria, looking for new allies to join his rebel forces. Amidst rocks, crystals, and roots of vegetation, he stands watchful, wielding a ray pistol and carrying, or holding, one of his swords, ready to use his combat skills to defend his ideals and bring peace to the peoples of Mongo. The protagonist of one of the best illustrated and most influential comics, Iron Studios proudly presents its “Flash Gordon Deluxe – Art Scale 1:10 – Flash Gordon” statue featuring the classic space hero.

Created by Alex Raymond in 1934 in comics, in newspaper strips, the space opera, which narrates the adventures of Flash Gordon, became a reference, influencing other authors in science fiction to this day, and gaining adaptations in TV and cinema. In the story, while threatening the Earth, a planet called Mongo, ruled by a dictator villain named Ming the Merciless, is visited by a rocket created by scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov alongside his friend and ally Flash Gordon, an adventurous young athlete, and Dale Arden, Flash’s girlfriend. For years, Flash and his allies live their adventures in Mongo, traveling through the planet’s eclectic ecosystem, discovering different kingdoms and cultures, from primitive people to the most advanced, and Flash Gordon uses his intelligence and leadership to unify the inhabitants against the oppressive regime of Ming.

The piece is already available for Pre-Order, along with the statue “The Phantom Deluxe – Art Scale 1:10 – The Phantom“. Flash Gordon is one of the first classic comic book heroes of the 1930s to get a statue by Iron Studios. On a golden base decorated with a lightning bolt, his symbol, the statue has an extra hand, with the option to let him hold his long sword or not.

On a hill amid the depths of the fictional jungle of Bangalla, in equatorial Africa, the imposing secular purple figure sharpens his senses with the drumming of the Bandar pygmies, his allies. Alongside his faithful wolf companion named Devil, the relentless fighter of the Singh pirates and all the villains watches, and prepares with his two .45 ACP caliber pistols in hand. A light reflects off the metal buckle of his leather belt, in the shape of a skull, his hallmark. Iron Studios proudly presents one of the greatest comic book classic heroes in its statue “The Phantom Deluxe – Art Scale 1:10 – The Phantom”, the first fictional hero masked and uniformed, in a leotard that has become a trademark of super -heroes in the comics!

The Phantom was created by screenwriter Lee Falk and artist Ray Moore in 1936 in newspaper comic strips. His saga begins in 1536, when pirates kill the father of British sailor Christopher Walker. After swearing to his father’s assassin’s skull that he would fight evil, Christopher began the Phantom legacy that would pass from father to son. He has earned nicknames such as “The Ghost Who Walks” and “The Man Who Never Dies”, as few know his history, and his legend comes from the fact that most believe he is the same man who emerged in the 1500s. The character mainly acts on his territory in the jungles of a fictional African country called Bangalla. The Phantom has no superpowers and having been trained as a child to take on the legacy of his ancestors, he uses his strength, intelligence, and renowned immortality to defeat his enemies. The best known of his dynasty is the 21st Phantom, married to Diana Palmer with whom he had two children, Kit and Heloise. He has the help of a Bandar healer named Guran, his best friend who has saved his life several times.

With a base adorned with the Mark of Good and Skull, symbols of The Ghost Who Walks, faithful to the smallest detail, with the Skull and Mark of Good rings in the hero’s hands, The Phantom is one of the first classic comic book heroes to gets his statue by Iron Studios along with the space adventurer statue “Flash Gordon – Art Scale 1:10 – Flash Gordon“.
